REPRODUCTIONS AND FAKES

On this page we will try to show examples of some of the more commonly found Reproductions and Fakes. When talking about a "reproduction" we are referring to pieces of carnival glass that have either been made from the original moulds or from new moulds which copy the old pattern. When the reproductions were made there was no intention by the various companies to fool or trick the collectors into thinking they were buying the old original pieces. The Fenton Glass Company and Imperial Glass Company went to great lengths to mark their reproduction with their logo, something that was not done during the first period of carnival glass production.
The fakes on the other hand were made to try and fool the collector into paying good money for something made "yesterday". The most common patterns that have been faked are, Northwoods Good Luck bowls, Peacocks on the Fence bowls and Grape and Cable bowls, the Australian, Kingfisher nappy bowls and Kangaroo master bowls. The experienced collector will have little trouble spotting the difference, and hopefully we can point out a few of the easier to pick differences as shown in the pictures.
